I use the title in the sense that I now must choose. They are not directly competing of course. However the two companies have terms and conditions / policies that now conflict with each other. For all of us web site owners who get traffic from google and also use TLA we are now in a quandary. Google is now lowering the rank, traffic, etc. of sites that it determines use text links as advertisements without the re="nofollow" attribute. This is due to those links skewing the search engines ability to properly determine a sites ranking, and how much rank to pass on to other sites it links to. Makes sense. It has now been a month since I purchased a Text Link Ads from 2 websites, for testing purposes. To me I do not think it was worth the purchase. I only purchased 2 TLA from pretty favorable websites. I wanted to see for the month of September if anything increased, RSS, Loyal Readers, Income, etc. To my surprise nothing, I have gained some income maybe a little growth in RSS but nothing substantial. So here are some stats below, a screenshot of a months worth data by Google Analytics. This should be a good read for others wanting to buy or purchase blog real estate. I know I am writing this and I am contradicting myself here, since I am selling some of my blog space for text link ads spots. Popular blogs make income that way and I will want to proceed in doing the same. But my results may differ from others and if so let me know. I was just informed by a fellow reader by the name of Yehuda Berlinger about Text Links Ads are doing away from TinyUrl. Yehuda has left a comment on my post about the response I received from TLA. She says TLA is working on a better solution and we do not have to change our affiliate links! This is causing so much confusion among bloggers. Yesterday, I got an email about TLA and how they are adjusting the affiliate code with tinyurl. Wait, isn’t tinyurl.com a link shrinker? an affiliate cloaker? Why is TLA using tinyurl as our new affiliate link? This does not make sense; they state my affiliate link will not work after a week. Why NOT? TinyUrl.com is just a link shrinker cloaker! I just want my affiliate link as I use my own cloaking tools and database on my blog. So I do not find it useful to use tinyurl. What is TinyURL: A tool which creates a tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires. It hides the actual link if you don’t want people to know what the URL is because it might give away that it’s an affiliate link.
